Correlation studies of IceCube neutrinos with subcatalogs of Fermi's 3rd catalog(pdf)

The neutrino detector IceCube at the South Pole has detected several neutrino events with energies up to the PeV regime. So far, no clear astrophysical counterparts could be identified. Blazars with powerful jets and non-thermal emission belong to the most promising neutrino source candidates. Using the unbinned maximum likelihood method for an energy-dependent background simulation, we study the correlation between the positions of IceCube HESE-events and various subclasses of high-galactic latitude blazars in the 3rd Fermi-LAT catalogue. Although no statistically significant correlations could be found, the strongest indication for a correlation was obtained for flat-spectrum radioquasars (FSRQs).
