SiPMs in cosmic-ray air-shower detectors for IceCube
The surface veto detectors of IceCube-Gen2 measure cosmic-ray air-showers. Scintillators, optical fibers and a light sensor are used for these newly developed detectors. As light sensors Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs) are employed because they are mechanically robust and do not require high voltage. Before installing the SiPMs characterization measurements were made to ensure their suitability for the IceTop Scintillator Upgrade. The measured photo detection efficiency, gain as well as cross talk and dark counts will be presented in this talk.
