Wavelet Denoising for Transient Search(pdf)
Transient astronomical events are phenomena where a huge amount of high energy radiation is emitted over short timescales (a few minutes) such as gamma ray bursts, supernovae or transits. CTA in its final setup will be able to scan the sky for such short flares on unknown positions. Since the time frame for transients is very short, the data are very noisy and dominated by background events. Furthermore transients may appear in the field of view of a steady source. A wavelet transform is a method known from digital image processing to denoise images. This talk presents a method based on wavelet denoising to filter transient events in CTA data.
