The High Timing Resolution Spectrometer on board IXO (pdf)

The International X-Ray Obervatory (IXO) is a satellite dedicated to the observation of X-rays from the most distant and interesting objects like black holes at the very early times of the universe. Six instruments on board the satellite will detect, image and measure a fascinating part of the universe using X-rays collected by a single large X-ray mirror with a 3 square meter collecting area and 5 arcsec angular resolution. The Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics in Tübingen participates in the development of two of these instruments, one is the High Timing Resolution Spectrometer (HTRS). The soft- and hardware for its Data Processing Unit is developed and will be tested in Tübingen. The talk will cover the IXO mission including science goals, and will focus on the HTRS instrument and the work done in the course of my thesis.
